Description

These Cinnamon Twists are a quick breakfast, easy dessert, and cozy homemade pastry all in one. Ingredients

1 sheet puff pastry, thawed

2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

1/3 cup granulated sugar

1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

1 pinch salt

1 egg, beaten

1/2 cup powdered sugar

1 tablespoon milk

1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract


Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. Unfold the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface and roll lightly to smooth the seams.

3. Brush the pastry with melted butter.

4. Mix the granulated sugar, cinnamon, and salt in a small bowl.

5. Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture evenly over the pastry.

6. Fold the pastry in half and press gently to help the layers stick together.

7. Cut the dough into 10 to 12 even strips.

8. Twist each strip several times and place them on the prepared baking sheet.

9. Brush the tops with beaten egg.

10. Bake for 15 to 18 minutes, until puffed and golden brown.

11. Cool on a wire rack.

12. Whisk the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract together and drizzle over the twists if desired.

Notes

Use cold puff pastry for the cleanest twists and best flaky layers.

Do not overbake or the cinnamon sugar can become too dark on the edges.

Let the twists cool on a rack so the bottoms stay crisp instead of soft.
