Description
This Ultimate Cheesy Ground Beef Melt layers juicy seasoned beef and melty cheese between slices of buttery, crisp bread. It’s the ultimate comfort sandwich — quick to make and satisfying enough for lunch or dinner.
Ingredients
1 lb ground beef
1/2 medium onion, chopped (optional)
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
1/4 tsp garlic powder (optional)
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce (optional)
1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
4 slices sourdough or Texas toast bread
2 tbsp butter, softened
Instructions
1. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned. If using onion, sauté it with the beef until soft. Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce.
2. Butter one side of each slice of bread. On the unbuttered side of two slices, layer cheddar and mozzarella, then spoon the beef mixture evenly over the cheese.
3. Top each with the remaining bread slices, butter side facing out.
4. Heat a skillet over medium. Grill each sandwich for 3–4 minutes per side, covering the skillet with a lid to help the cheese melt. Flip carefully and continue cooking until the bread is golden and the cheese is melted.
5. Remove from heat, rest for 1 minute, then slice and serve warm.
Notes
For extra crispiness, press the sandwich with a spatula while grilling.
Freshly shredded cheese melts smoother than pre-shredded varieties.
If making multiple sandwiches, keep them warm in a 200°F oven.
