  • Author: Julia Koch
  • Total Time: 1 hour 30 minutes
  • Yield: About 8 servings

Description

These Southern-style firecrackers are a fiery twist on classic saltines, soaked in a seasoned oil mix of ranch, red pepper flakes, and spices, then baked to golden, crispy perfection. Perfect for parties or snacking anytime you want a crunchy, spicy bite.

Ingredients

1 box (about 4 sleeves) saltine crackers

1 cup canola or vegetable oil

1 packet (2 tablespoons) ranch dressing mix

2 tablespoons crushed red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon paprika

1 tablespoon sesame seeds (optional)

Instructions

  1. Place the saltine crackers in a large zip-top bag or mixing bowl.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the oil, ranch mix, red pepper flakes, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and sesame seeds.
  3. Pour the spice mixture over the crackers. Seal the bag and gently turn to coat or toss in a bowl until evenly coated.
  4. Let sit for at least 1 hour or overnight for deeper flavor.
  5. Preheat oven to 250°F (120°C).
  6. Spread crackers in a single layer on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  7. Bake for 15–20 minutes, stirring once halfway.
  8. Cool completely before storing in an airtight container.
