Description

Looking for a hearty dish that checks the boxes for easy recipe, quick dinner ideas, and cozy food for the family? This Savory Cabbage Casserole is the perfect blend of comfort and convenience. With layers of tender cabbage, juicy seasoned meat, melty cheese, and a savory tomato base, it’s ideal for anyone craving easy dinner, healthy comfort food, or simple casserole recipes that deliver every time.

Ingredients

1 medium green cabbage, chopped

1 pound ground beef or ground turkey

1 yellow onion, diced

3 cloves garlic, minced

2 cups tomato sauce or crushed tomatoes

1 cup cooked rice

1 ½ cups shredded cheddar or mozzarella cheese

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon black pepper

1 teaspoon paprika

1 teaspoon dried oregano or thyme

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium. Add diced onion and cook until translucent.

3. Stir in garlic and cook for 30 seconds. Add ground meat and brown fully. Drain excess fat.

4. Add tomato sauce, salt, pepper, paprika, and herbs. Stir in cooked rice and simmer 5–7 minutes.

5. Layer half the chopped cabbage in the baking dish. Top with the meat and rice mixture.

6. Add remaining cabbage on top. Cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes.

7. Uncover, add shredded cheese, and bake another 10–15 minutes until bubbly and golden.

8. Let rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

Let the casserole rest before slicing so the layers stay intact.

Use pre-shredded cabbage to cut prep time in half.

Feel free to double the cheese if you’re feeling extra indulgent.
