Description

A comforting classic, Salisbury Steak with Mushroom Gravy features juicy, pan-seared beef patties simmered in a rich mushroom and onion gravy. It’s a weeknight-friendly recipe that delivers nostalgic, home-cooked flavor in every bite.

Ingredients

1 lb ground beef (80/20 recommended)

1/3 cup breadcrumbs

1 large egg

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1/2 yellow onion, grated

2 cloves garlic, minced

2 tablespoons butter (plus more as needed)

1 tablespoon olive oil

8 oz mushrooms, sliced

1/2 onion, sliced (for the gravy)

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

2 cups beef broth

Salt and pepper to taste

Fresh thyme (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, grated onion, egg, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Form into 4 oval patties.
  2. Heat butter and oil in a skillet. Sear patties 3-4 minutes per side until browned. Set aside.
  3. Add more butter if needed, then sauté sliced mushrooms and onions until soft and golden.
  4. Sprinkle in flour, cook for 1 minute. Slowly stir in beef broth and simmer until thickened.
  5. Return patties to skillet. Cover and simmer on low for 15-20 minutes, spooning gravy over top.
  6. Garnish with thyme and serve hot with mashed potatoes or vegetables
