Ingredients
3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
1 cup warm water
2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
1 tablespoon sugar
1 ½ teaspoons salt
2 tablespoons olive oil
4 tablespoons unsalted butter (melted)
4 cloves garlic (minced)
2 tablespoons fresh parsley (chopped)
1 tablespoon fresh rosemary (chopped)
⅓ cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
1. In a large bowl or stand mixer, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
2. Add olive oil, salt, and flour. Mix and knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Cover and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled.
3. Punch down the dough and divide it into small pieces about 1 inch wide. Roll each into a smooth ball.
4. On a parchment-lined baking sheet or round pizza pan, arrange dough balls in a circular wreath shape. Leave space in the center for a dipping bowl. Cover and let rise for 20 minutes.
5. In a small saucepan, melt the butter and stir in garlic, parsley, and rosemary. Brush the herb butter over the dough balls generously.
6. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 20–25 minutes until golden brown and puffy.
7. During the last 5 minutes, sprinkle Parmesan cheese over the top and continue baking.
8. Serve warm with a bowl of marinara sauce placed in the center for dipping.
Notes
For a cheesy center, stuff each dough ball with a cube of mozzarella before baking.
If making ahead, shape and refrigerate the dough balls overnight. Let them come to room temperature before baking.
Brushing the wreath again with melted butter after baking adds a beautiful gloss and locks in moisture.
