Ingredients
1 can refrigerated biscuit dough
1 pound pork breakfast sausage
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
2 1/2 cups whole milk
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
Instructions
1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9×13 baking dish.
2. In a large skillet, cook the sausage over medium heat until fully browned. Do not drain the fat.
3. Sprinkle the flour over the sausage and stir until it absorbs the fat.
4. Slowly add milk while whisking continuously to create a thick gravy. Simmer for 2-3 minutes, then season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder if using.
5. Cut each biscuit into quarters. Spread half in the bottom of the baking dish.
6. Pour the sausage gravy evenly over the biscuit layer.
7. Top with remaining biscuit quarters.
8. Bake for 25–30 minutes until biscuits are golden and cooked through.
9. If using cheddar, sprinkle on top during the last 5 minutes of baking.
10. Let rest 5 minutes before serving warm.
Notes
For best texture, avoid flaky-layer biscuits, which can separate awkwardly during baking.
Let the casserole sit 5–10 minutes after baking—it thickens and slices better.
If prepping the night before, cover and refrigerate. Add 5–10 minutes to the bake time when cooking cold.
