Description

This Tex-Mex-inspired layered casserole brings comfort to your plate with every bite. Rich layers of seasoned ground beef, tangy creamy cheese, soft tortillas, and melty cheddar come together in a dish that’s perfect for family dinners, potlucks, or meal prep. Topped with fresh avocado, sour cream, olives, and green onions—this dish lives up to its name: Layers of Comfort.

Ingredients

1 pound ground beef

1 packet taco seasoning

1 tablespoon water

8 ounces cream cheese, softened

1 cup sour cream

1 cup salsa

6 large flour tortillas

2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese

1 avocado, diced (for topping)

1/2 cup sliced black olives (for topping)

1/3 cup chopped green onions (for topping)

Extra sour cream for garnish (optional)

Instructions

1. In a nonstick skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until fully browned. Drain the excess fat.

2. Stir in taco seasoning and 1 tablespoon of water. Simmer until the mixture thickens.

3. In a mixing bowl, combine softened cream cheese and sour cream until smooth.

4. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).

5. Lightly grease a 9-inch round glass baking dish.

6. Start with a thin layer of salsa on the bottom of the dish.

7. Add a flour tortilla, followed by a layer of the beef mixture, then a layer of the cream cheese blend, and a sprinkle of shredded cheddar.

8. Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used, finishing with cheese on top.

9. Cover with foil and bake for 20 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 10 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden.

10. Let rest for 5–10 minutes.

11. Top with diced avocado, sliced olives, chopped green onions, and a dollop of sour cream before serving.

Notes

Letting the casserole rest before slicing helps keep layers intact and prevents sogginess.

Use freshly grated cheese for a smoother melt compared to pre-shredded.

You can prep this a day ahead and store in the fridge until baking time for convenience.
