Ingredients
1 pound ground beef
1/2 pound ground pork
1/2 pound ground veal (optional)
1 large onion, finely chopped
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 cup breadcrumbs
2 eggs, beaten
3/4 cup milk
2/3 cup ketchup (plus extra for topping)
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon dried thyme
2 tablespoons chopped parsley
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a skillet, heat olive oil and sauté chopped onion until soft and translucent. Let cool.
- In a large bowl, soak breadcrumbs in milk until absorbed.
- Add ground meats, sautéed onion, eggs, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, herbs, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined.
- Shape into a loaf on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Spread extra ketchup over the top of the loaf.
- Bake for 1 hour to 1 hour 15 minutes, until internal temperature reaches 160°F.
- Let rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
