Description
A creamy, slightly sweet, tangy Japanese steakhouse-style sauce made easily at home with pantry staples. Perfect as a dip for grilled meats, seafood, vegetables, or a drizzle over rice. This Homemade Hibachi Yum Yum Sauce tastes even better after resting in the fridge.
Ingredients
1 cup mayonnaise
1 tablespoon ketchup
1 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted
1 tablespoon sugar
1 tablespoon rice vinegar
½ teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon smoked paprika
2–3 tablespoons water (to thin to desired consistency)
Instructions
1. Melt the unsalted butter and allow it to cool slightly so it doesn’t curdle the mayo.
2. In a mixing bowl, combine mayonnaise, ketchup, melted butter, sugar, rice vinegar, garlic powder, and smoked paprika.
3. Whisk until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
4. Add water, one tablespoon at a time, whisking between each addition until you reach a pourable but not runny consistency.
5. Transfer to an airtight container and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to let the flavors blend.
6. Stir before serving. Enjoy with hibachi-style dishes, shrimp, fried rice, or sandwiches.
Notes
For the richest flavor and texture, use full-fat mayonnaise.
This sauce develops more flavor as it rests; make it a few hours ahead for best results.
If you want a spicy kick, stir in a little sriracha or cayenne before chilling.
