Description

Soft, fluffy, and brushed with buttery garlic and herbs, these Homemade Garlic Knots are the perfect savory bread companion to your Italian meals or party spreads. Easy to make from scratch, freezer-friendly, and irresistibly delicious.

Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

3/4 cup warm water

2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast

1 tablespoon granulated sugar

3/4 teaspoon salt

2 tablespoons olive oil

3 tablespoons unsalted butter

3 cloves fresh garlic, minced

2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped

2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese (optional)

Instructions

1. In a mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.

2. Add flour, salt, and olive oil to the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.

3. Knead the dough with a stand mixer or by hand for 8 minutes until smooth and elastic.

4. Transfer the dough to a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1 hour or until doubled.

5. Punch down the dough and roll it into a rectangle. Slice into strips and tie each into a knot.

6. Place knots on a parchment-lined baking sheet and let them rise again for 20–30 minutes.

7. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake knots for 12–15 minutes until golden brown.

8. While baking, melt butter in a pan and stir in garlic. Simmer briefly, then mix in parsley and salt.

9. Brush baked knots with garlic butter while hot. Sprinkle with Parmesan if using. Serve warm.

Notes

Be sure your yeast is fresh and active—foaminess is the sign it’s alive.

Don’t over-flour the dough; keep it soft and slightly tacky for fluffier knots.

For best results, brush the garlic butter twice—once right out of the oven and again after 5 minutes.
