Description
These German Cinnamon Stars Cookies are a festive easy recipe with a chewy almond center, warm cinnamon flavor, and a sweet snowy glaze on top. They are perfect for holiday dessert trays, Christmas baking, cozy food ideas, and homemade cookie gifts when you want a classic European treat that feels special and beautiful.
Ingredients
1 large egg white
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar, divided
2 cups almond flour
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/8 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon lemon juice
Instructions
1. Preheat the oven to 300°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. In a clean mixing bowl, beat the egg white until foamy.
3. Gradually add 1 1/4 cups of the powdered sugar and continue beating until glossy soft peaks form.
4. Reserve about 2 tablespoons of the whipped mixture for the glaze.
5. Fold in the almond flour, cinnamon, vanilla extract, salt, and lemon juice until a soft sticky dough forms.
6. Cover and chill the dough for 30 to 45 minutes.
7. Dust a sheet of parchment or a work surface with the remaining powdered sugar and roll the dough to about 1/4 inch thick.
8. Cut out star shapes and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
9. Spread the reserved glaze gently over the tops of the cookies.
10. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes until the tops are set but not browned.
11. Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
Chill the dough well before rolling so the stars hold their shape more easily.
Dust the cutter with powdered sugar between cuts to prevent sticking.
Do not overbake, or the cookies can lose their soft chewy center.
