A show-stopping, silky appetizer that brings together smoky salmon, citrus, and herbs in an airy mousse—perfect for elegant brunches, dinner parties, or holiday spreads. This quick appetizer is as beautiful as it is delicious, making it one of our favorite food ideas for entertaining. It’s also a naturally gluten-free, easy recipe for anyone looking to elevate their appetizer game with minimal effort. Add this to your collection of healthy snack options or refined dinner ideas.

Ingredients

6 oz smoked salmon

8 oz cream cheese, softened

1/2 cup heavy cream

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1 teaspoon lemon zest

1 tablespoon fresh dill, chopped

1 tablespoon chives, finely chopped

1/4 teaspoon salt (or to taste)

1/8 teaspoon white pepper

Instructions

1. Add smoked salmon and softened cream cheese to a food processor. Blend until the mixture becomes smooth and uniform.

2. Add lemon juice, lemon zest, chopped dill, and chives to the salmon mixture. Pulse a few times to combine the ingredients evenly.

3. In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form.

4. Gently fold the whipped cream into the salmon base using a spatula, being careful not to deflate the mousse.

5. Taste and season with salt and white pepper. Stir gently to maintain the airy texture.

6. Transfer the mousse into a serving bowl or mold. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours to allow it to set and for flavors to meld.

7. Before serving, garnish with additional dill or smoked salmon slices. Serve chilled with crostini, crackers, or cucumber rounds.

Notes

For the silkiest mousse, press the final mixture through a fine mesh sieve before chilling.

Use cold-smoked salmon for the smoothest texture. Hot-smoked may result in a chunkier finish.

Make ahead up to 2 days. Just stir gently before serving and garnish fresh.
