Ingredients
1 lb ground beef
1/2 head green cabbage, chopped
2 medium carrots, diced
2 celery stalks, chopped
1 medium onion, diced
3 garlic cloves, minced
1 (15 oz) can tomato sauce
4 cups beef broth
1/2 cup uncooked rice
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp dried thyme (optional)
1 bay leaf (optional)
1 tbsp olive oil
Instructions
- In a large pot, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned. Drain excess fat.
- Add onion, garlic, celery, and carrots. Sauté for 5-7 minutes until vegetables are soft.
- Stir in tomato sauce and beef broth. Season with salt, pepper, thyme, and add bay leaf if using.
- Add chopped cabbage and uncooked rice. Stir well and bring to a gentle boil.
- Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 25-30 minutes until rice is tender and cabbage is soft.
- Remove bay leaf, adjust seasoning, and serve hot.
