Ingredients

1 lb ground beef

1/2 head green cabbage, chopped

2 medium carrots, diced

2 celery stalks, chopped

1 medium onion, diced

3 garlic cloves, minced

1 (15 oz) can tomato sauce

4 cups beef broth

1/2 cup uncooked rice

1 tsp salt

1/2 tsp black pepper

1/2 tsp dried thyme (optional)

1 bay leaf (optional)

1 tbsp olive oil


Instructions

  1. In a large pot, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned. Drain excess fat.
  2. Add onion, garlic, celery, and carrots. Sauté for 5-7 minutes until vegetables are soft.
  3. Stir in tomato sauce and beef broth. Season with salt, pepper, thyme, and add bay leaf if using.
  4. Add chopped cabbage and uncooked rice. Stir well and bring to a gentle boil.
  5. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 25-30 minutes until rice is tender and cabbage is soft.
  6. Remove bay leaf, adjust seasoning, and serve hot.
