Description
A bold and crunchy crowd-pleaser, Doritos Taco Salad layers savory seasoned beef, crisp lettuce, juicy tomatoes, shredded cheese, and crushed nacho cheese Doritos—all tossed with creamy dressing. Perfect for casual dinners, potlucks, or game nights.
Ingredients
1 pound ground beef
6 cups chopped romaine or iceberg lettuce
1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
2 cups Nacho Cheese Doritos, lightly crushed
½ cup sour cream or ranch dressing
¼ cup sliced red onion (optional)
2 tablespoons taco seasoning
2 tablespoons water (for seasoning beef)
Instructions
1. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned and no longer pink. Drain excess fat.
2. Stir in taco seasoning and 2 tablespoons water. Simmer until the mixture thickens slightly. Remove from heat and let cool for a few minutes.
3. While the beef is cooking, wash and dry the lettuce using a salad spinner. Chop into bite-sized pieces.
4. Halve the cherry tomatoes and thinly slice red onion, if using.
5. In a large mixing bowl, combine the lettuce, tomatoes, onion, and seasoned beef.
6. Add shredded cheddar cheese and drizzle with sour cream or ranch dressing. Toss gently to coat.
7. Just before serving, add crushed Doritos and gently toss with tongs to combine while preserving the crunch.
8. Serve immediately or store components separately for later assembly.
Notes
For extra crunch, don’t add the Doritos until just before serving.
You can swap beef for ground turkey or a plant-based option without changing the prep.
Mix sour cream with a spoonful of salsa for an easy, creamy taco-style dressing.
