Ingredients
2 pounds boneless skinless chicken breasts or thighs
1 1/2 cups barbecue sauce
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
1. Place the chicken breasts or thighs in the crockpot in an even layer.
2. In a bowl, whisk together barbecue sauce, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
3. Pour the sauce over the chicken, making sure all pieces are coated.
4. Cover and cook on low for 6–7 hours or on high for 3–4 hours.
5. Once cooked, shred the chicken with two forks directly in the crockpot.
6. Mix the shredded chicken with the sauce until evenly combined.
7. Serve hot on buns, over rice, in tacos, or however you like.
Notes
Use chicken thighs for extra juicy and tender results.
Always shred the chicken directly in the crockpot to soak up more sauce.
For a smoky kick, use a hickory or chipotle-style BBQ sauce.
