Description

These Creamy Swedish Meatballs are the ultimate comfort food — tender meatballs made with a beef and pork blend, simmered in a rich, velvety sauce with hints of allspice and Dijon. Serve over mashed potatoes or egg noodles for a cozy, satisfying dinner any night of the week.

Ingredients

1/2 pound ground beef

1/2 pound ground pork

1/2 cup breadcrumbs

1 large egg

1/4 cup grated onion

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1/4 teaspoon ground allspice

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

2 tablespoons butter (for sauce)

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

1 1/2 cups beef broth

1/2 cup heavy cream

1 teaspoon Dijon mustard

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

1. In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, egg, grated onion, garlic powder, allspice, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined.

2. Use a cookie scoop or your hands to form 1-inch meatballs. Set aside on a plate.

3. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, melt a bit of butter or oil and brown the meatballs in batches. Turn occasionally to brown evenly. Remove and set aside.

4. In the same skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter. Whisk in 2 tablespoons of flour and cook for 1–2 minutes to form a roux.

5. Slowly whisk in the beef broth, then add the Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, and heavy cream. Simmer until thickened.

6. Return the cooked meatballs to the sauce. Spoon sauce over the top and let everything simmer together for 10 minutes.

7. Serve hot with mashed potatoes, egg noodles, or your favorite side. Garnish with chopped parsley if desired.

Notes

Use freshly grated onion to avoid big chunks and to infuse the meat with more moisture and flavor.

Let the sauce simmer after adding the cream for a few minutes to reach the perfect thickness without curdling.

Don’t skip the Dijon mustard — it adds an acidic balance that enhances the creaminess.
