Ingredients
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup eggnog
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
2 cups powdered sugar
3 tablespoons eggnog
Ground cinnamon, nutmeg, or holiday sprinkles
Instructions
1. Cream the butter and sugar together in a large mixing bowl until light and fluffy.
2. Add eggnog and vanilla extract to the butter mixture and beat until combined.
3. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg.
4. Gradually add the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, mixing until a soft dough forms.
5. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
6. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
7. Roll out dough on a floured surface to 1/4-inch thickness.
8. Cut into desired shapes using cookie cutters and place on parchment-lined baking sheets.
9. Bake for 8–10 minutes, until edges are lightly golden.
10. Let cookies cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack.
11. For the frosting, beat butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar and eggnog, beating until smooth.
12. Frost cooled cookies and garnish as desired.
Notes
Chill the dough fully to prevent the cookies from spreading too much during baking.
Use full-fat eggnog for the richest flavor in both the dough and the frosting.
Frost only after the cookies have completely cooled to avoid melting the icing.
