Ingredients
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup brown sugar, packed
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon salt
11 oz caramel candies (about 40 pieces)
1/4 cup heavy cream
1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips, divided
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8×8-inch baking dish with parchment paper.
- In a mixing bowl, cream together butter and brown sugar until fluffy.
- Stir in vanilla and salt, then add flour. Mix to form a soft dough.
- Press dough evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan.
- Bake for 15 minutes or until lightly golden. Let cool slightly.
- While crust cools, melt caramel candies with heavy cream in a saucepan over low heat, stirring until smooth.
- Sprinkle half of the chocolate chips over the crust.
- Pour melted caramel over the chips, then top with remaining chocolate chips.
- Bake again for 15 minutes until caramel bubbles.
- Cool completely, lift from pan, and cut into squares.
