2 tablespoons Kirsch or cherry liqueur (optional)
1/2 cup dark chocolate shavings
1/2 cup fresh cherries (for garnish)

2. Cut the cooled chocolate cake into 1-inch cubes using a serrated knife.
3. Place one layer of cake cubes in the bottom of a trifle dish.
4. Spoon a generous layer of cherry pie filling over the cake.
5. Add a thick layer of whipped cream, spreading it evenly.
6. Repeat layers until the dish is full, ending with whipped cream on top.
7. Sprinkle dark chocolate shavings over the top layer of cream.
8. Garnish with fresh cherries and chill the trifle for at least 2 hours before serving.
Notes
For best layering visuals, use a clear trifle bowl and gently press cake cubes into place.
You can substitute the Kirsch with cherry juice for an alcohol-free version.
Prepare a day ahead for enhanced flavor and texture—the trifle sets beautifully overnight.
