Description
A stunning no-bake dessert that combines the richness of chocolate cake, the brightness of cherries, and the creaminess of whipped topping, this Best Layered Black Forest Trifle is perfect for entertaining. With each spoonful offering a medley of moist cake, juicy cherries, and airy whipped cream, it’s both indulgent and refreshingly easy to make.
Ingredients
1 chocolate cake (store-bought or homemade), cut into cubes
2 cups cherry pie filling
2 cups heavy whipping cream
4 tablespoons powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 ounces dark chocolate, shaved
1/2 cup fresh cherries (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
1. In a large mixing bowl, whip heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form. Set aside.
2. Cut the chocolate cake into bite-sized cubes using a serrated knife.
3. In a clear trifle dish, add the first layer of chocolate cake cubes at the bottom and press gently to level.
4. Spoon cherry pie filling over the cake, letting some syrup soak into the cake layer.
5. Spread a generous layer of whipped cream over the cherries and smooth with a spatula.
6. Repeat the layering process: cake, cherry filling, whipped cream, until the dish is full or you’ve done 2–3 layers.
7. Top with chocolate shavings and fresh cherries.
8. Refrigerate the trifle for at least 2 hours before serving to let the flavors meld beautifully.
Notes
Chill your mixing bowl and beaters before whipping cream to help it whip faster and hold better structure.
Make sure the chocolate cake is fully cooled if homemade — warm cake can melt the cream.
Garnish just before serving to keep chocolate curls and fresh cherries looking their best.
