Description
This Best Crock Pot Cube Steak is a slow-cooked Southern classic. Tenderized beef simmers in a rich onion and mushroom gravy, perfect for serving over mashed potatoes or rice. It’s a budget-friendly, fuss-free comfort meal.
Ingredients
2 pounds cube steak
2 medium yellow onions, sliced
1 ½ cups beef broth
1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
2 tablespoons cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
2 tablespoons cold water (for cornstarch slurry)
Instructions
1. Optional: Sear cube steak in a skillet for 1–2 minutes per side for added flavor.
2. Layer sliced onions at the bottom of a crock pot.
3. Place cube steak over onions.
4. In a mixing bowl, whisk together cream of mushroom soup, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until smooth.
5. Pour gravy mixture evenly over the steaks.
6. Cover and cook on Low for 6–8 hours or High for 4–5 hours until steak is fork-tender.
7. Optional: For thicker gravy, mix cornstarch and cold water in a small bowl and stir into the crock pot during the last 30 minutes.
8. Serve hot over mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles.
Notes
If you’re short on time, you can skip searing, but it adds great depth to the flavor.
Use low-sodium beef broth and soup to better control salt levels.
Leftovers taste even better the next day after soaking in all the gravy overnight.
