It’s a quick breakfast, an easy recipe to whip up, and one of the best fall food ideas with its cinnamon-sugar swirl and tender crumb. Whether you’re craving a comforting bake, need a brunch idea, or want a sweet slice with coffee, this apple dessert delivers flavor and warmth in every bite.

Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon (divided)

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup brown sugar (divided)

2 large eggs

1/2 cup milk (or buttermilk)

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 1/2 cups peeled and chopped apples (e.g., Granny Smith)

1/4 cup all-purpose flour (for streusel)

2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened (for streusel)

1/2 cup powdered sugar

12 tablespoons milk (for glaze)

Instructions

1. Mix 1/4 cup brown sugar with 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon in a small bowl and set aside for the swirl.

2. For the streusel: combine 1/4 cup brown sugar, 1/4 cup flour, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, and 2 tablespoons softened butter. Mix with a fork until crumbly.

3. In a large bowl, whisk together 2 cups flour, 1 teaspoon baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon baking soda, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon.

4. In another bowl, cream 1/2 cup softened butter with 1/2 cup granulated sugar until fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time. Add vanilla and milk.

5. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined. Fold in chopped apples.

6. Pour half of the batter into a greased 9×5-inch loaf pan. Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar swirl. Top with remaining batter. Swirl gently with a knife.

7. Sprinkle the streusel topping evenly over the top.

8. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 50–60 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes in pan, then transfer to a wire rack.

9. Mix 1/2 cup powdered sugar with 1–2 tablespoons milk for glaze. Drizzle over cooled loaf. Slice and serve.

Notes

Let the bread cool completely before glazing to avoid melting the drizzle into the streusel.

For deeper flavor, refrigerate overnight and serve the next day slightly warmed.

Chop the apples small so they bake evenly and don’t sink to the bottom.
