Description

A cozy, classic Apple Crisp with Oats featuring tart apples, warm spices, and a golden, buttery oat topping. It’s easy to make, comforting, and perfect with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Ideal for holidays or simple weeknight desserts.

Ingredients

6 cups sliced fresh apples

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg

3/4 cup old-fashioned rolled oats

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1/3 cup brown sugar

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8×8 or 9×9-inch baking dish.

2. In a mixing bowl, toss the sliced apples with lemon juice, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

3. Spread the apple mixture evenly in the prepared baking dish.

4. In another bowl, mix oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt.

5. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or fork until the mixture becomes crumbly.

6. Evenly sprinkle the topping over the apples without pressing it down.

7. Bake for 40-45 minutes until the top is golden and filling is bubbly.

8. Let it cool for 10 minutes before serving warm with ice cream.

Notes

For best results, always use cold butter and mix the topping until crumbly, not smooth.

Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples are ideal for a balance of sweet and tart.

To make this gluten-free, use certified GF oats and a gluten-free flour blend.
