Description

This 35-Minute Tuna Noodle Casserole is a comforting, creamy, and crispy dinner option made with pantry staples. It’s quick to prepare, hearty enough to satisfy, and perfect for busy weeknights or cozy weekend meals. With tender noodles, savory tuna, sweet peas, and a golden cheesy crust—this classic casserole never goes out of style.

Ingredients

3 cups egg noodles, uncooked

2 cans tuna, drained and flaked (5 oz each)

1 cup frozen peas

1 ½ cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded

4 tablespoons butter, divided

3 tablespoons all-purpose flour

2 cups milk

½ teaspoon salt

¼ teaspoon black pepper

½ teaspoon garlic powder (optional)

½ cup breadcrumbs (panko or regular)

1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (optional)

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Grease a 9×13 baking dish and set aside.

2. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add egg noodles and cook until al dente, about 6-7 minutes. Drain and set aside.

3. In a medium saucepan, melt 3 tablespoons butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour and cook for 1 minute.

4. Gradually pour in milk while whisking continuously until smooth and thickened (about 3-4 minutes).

5. Stir in shredded cheddar cheese until melted. Add salt, pepper, and garlic powder if using.

6. In a large bowl, combine cooked noodles, tuna, peas, and cheese sauce. Stir gently until well mixed.

7. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and smooth the top.

8. In a small bowl, melt remaining 1 tablespoon butter and mix with breadcrumbs. Sprinkle over the casserole.

9. Bake uncovered for 15 minutes, or until top is golden brown. Broil for an extra 2-3 minutes for extra crunch.

10. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with parsley if desired.

Notes

For a gluten-free version, use GF pasta, flour, and breadcrumbs.

Swap peas with chopped broccoli or corn for variety.

Use pre-shredded cheese to save time, but grate fresh for better meltability.
